FAQs: Everything You Need to Know

300+ five-star reviews

Coogee's a suburb with older cottages, beachside apartments and everything in between, so plumbing problems here don't all look the same. Below are the questions we get asked most, grouped by topic. If yours isn't covered, call (02) 9138 6524 and we'll talk it through.

Good questions, straight answers

Are You Licensed and Insured?

Do you provide proof of licensing on request?

Yes. Our NSW Plumbing Licence #292427C is genuine and we're happy to confirm it before any work starts. We're licensed and insured for both water and gas, so you're not taking anything on trust.

Do I need a licensed plumber for emergency repairs?

Yes, for anything beyond turning off a tap or isolating a valve. Emergency repairs still have to meet NSW plumbing standards, and unlicensed work can cause bigger problems than the one you started with.

Is unlicensed plumbing work legal in NSW?

No. Plumbing and drainage work in NSW has to be carried out or supervised by a licensed plumber, and gas work needs its own licence again. It's a safety rule as much as a legal one.

Is it ever safe to attempt gas repairs myself?

No. If you smell gas or suspect a leak, leave the property straight away, don't operate any switches or appliances on your way out, and call us or the gas emergency line. Gas work is licensed-tradesperson only, always.

Availability and Booking

How do I know if my problem can wait until morning?

If water or gas is actively escaping, or you've lost all hot water in winter, call straight away. A slow drip or a slightly sluggish drain can usually hold until a normal appointment, but we're on hand either way.

Do you work weekends and public holidays?

Yes, we're open 24 hours for same-day emergency service, weekends and public holidays included. A real person answers the phone whenever you call, not a booking system.

What information do you need when I call?

Your address, what's happening (burst pipe, no hot water, gas smell, blocked drain), and whether water or gas is still running. That's enough for us to work out how urgent it is and get moving.

What if I call and it's not actually an emergency?

That's fine, plenty of calls turn out to be less urgent once we talk it through. We'd rather you call and check than sit on a problem that gets worse overnight.

What It Costs, Straight Up

Do you charge for travel time?

No. Our $0 Call Out Fee covers getting to you, wherever you are in Coogee or the surrounding area. You only pay for the work once it's agreed.

Is there a minimum charge for a callout?

There's no separate callout charge to worry about. You get a fair, upfront price for the job itself before we start, and that's the number you pay.

Do you price jobs individually or off a rate card?

Every job in Coogee gets its own price based on what's actually in front of us, not a generic rate card. Best Price Guaranteed means we check it's fair before you agree to anything.

Is the quote free even if I don't go ahead?

Yes. There's no cost or obligation for getting a price, and no pressure to say yes on the spot.

Questions Specific to Coogee

How often should older Coogee homes get their plumbing checked?

Pre-war cottages and mid-century apartment blocks around Coogee often carry original hot water systems and earthenware drains well past their prime. A yearly check catches ageing fittings before they fail without warning.

Do you get called to Coogee often?

Yes, Coogee is home turf for our team. Between the older housing stock and the beachside conditions, we're out this way regularly.

Does salt air affect hot water units in Coogee?

It does. Oceanfront properties near the headlands take constant salt-laden sea breeze, which corrodes exposed pipework and hot water units faster than you'd see a few suburbs inland.

What local factors do you consider before quoting on a job in Coogee?

We factor in the age of the property, whether it's on one of the steeper streets running down toward the bay, and how exposed it is to salt air off the water. Those three things change what a job actually needs.
